A shared route and a light structure for conversation.

Protect a couple of hours, once per fortnight for checking-in on your projects and goals, reflecting on your priorities, exploring the important topics, exchanging insights and chatting about what matters.

Each time it’s the same suggested route. This establishes familiarity, which frees us up to focus on the topics and our thoughts whilst facilitating a keener connection to the changing weather and seasons over the weeks.

Unfinished business: Hike

  • Meeting point: Grindleford station café ; Upper Padley, Grindleford, Hope Valley S32 2JA

  • Parking: Parking: There is parking along the road into the station and at the café car park. At the time of writing, £1.10 covers two hours and £2.20 covers four hours via RingGo

  • Meet: 0930

  • Depart: those joining will depart at 0940

    • The 0914 train from Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly arrives at Grindleford at 0928

    • The 1151 train will have you back in Sheffield for approximately 1205. Services generally run hourly, but do check beforehand

  • Route and suitability:

    • Suggested Route: GPX file and map

    • Total ascent: approx. 226m

    • Terrain and difficulty: mixed – rocky and dirt trails with some short but steep ascents and descents. We’ll go through oak and mixed woodlands, alongside streams, up to open moorland, pass through crags, along short bridleways with a couple of road crossings. You should have reasonable fitness and be confident in your own hiking abilities. Participants should be comfortable maintaining their own appropriate pace and making independent decisions about whether to continue.

NOTE: This is not a guided walk. You should have reasonable fitness, be confident walking on uneven ground, and be comfortable making your own decisions about pace, navigation and whether to continue in the prevailing conditions. Please come suitably equipped for the weather and terrain, with appropriate footwear, water, a charged phone and anything else you need to participate independently.

  • Arrive, then arrive. We’ll begin with 10-15 minutes of quiet walking: A chance to be present and  settle into your stride

  • Insights from the trail. Over the opening 1.5km, we’ll explore a business topic and see where it leads.

  • Pause for coffee. Bring your Thermos if you fancy one. A small pause to take in the surroundings.

  • Discovery. Between roughly the 1.5km to 3km marks, we’ll pair up for chats to discover overlapping interests, complimentary skills and practical opportunities for progress.

  • Thinking big. The climb up onto the moor then provides ideal space for zooming out: open conversation, questions, and the bigger things worth thinking about.

  • Trail and error. The final stretch gives us time for a second focal topic, making space for the possibilities within those “what if?” ideas.

  • Finish at the café. Finishing back at Grindleford Station Café. Of course, feel free to stick around and continue the conversations…

Unfinished business: Hike & Trail Run

Unfinished business, out in the Peak District.

At Peakpact, we take a fresh look at business: asking what’s needed and what can be done better? Exercise, time in nature, and thoughtful conversation can support wellbeing, strengthen communities, and reinspire our business motivation.

Business is an ongoing process: an adventure to define, navigate and embrace. Dedicating reflective time and space - for yourself and your business - can be invaluable.

Each week, Barry, Peakpact's Director of Strategy & Purpose is heading out on the trails with Unfinished Business. And you're very welcome to join him! Meet on selected Monday or Wednesday mornings for either a 5.5km hike or a 10km trail run. We alternate between the hike and the run weekly.

The best solutions rarely come from spending more time behind a screen.

*A note on participation: Unfinished Business is an informal, peer-led outdoor meet-up. Barry will share the route and offer a light structure and prompts for conversation, but it is not a guided walk, coached run or supervised activity. Everyone joins voluntarily as an independent participant and remains responsible for their own preparation, decisions and safety.

A shared route and a relaxed format for clearing the head and gaining momentum.

Hike week, run week, hike week, run week... When run week comes around, we head out for some trail time together.

Get the legs moving, lungs working and blood pumping; give your thoughts some processing space, return to clarity, sharpen focus and boost your motivation.

A little less conversation, a little more action on this one.

Each time, it's the same suggested 10km route. The familiarity frees us up to focus on the trail underfoot and be with our thoughts, the people alongside us and the Peak District environment.

Unfinished Business: 10km Trail Run

    • Total ascent: approx. 342m

    • Estimated time: 1 hr 20 mins

    • Terrain and difficulty: mixed – rocky and dirt trails with some short but steep ascents and descents. We’ll go through oak and mixed woodlands, alongside streams, up to open moorland, pass through crags, along short bridleways with a couple of road crossings. You should be comfortable completing the route independently; attendees may naturally spread out or regroup along the way.

  • Arrive, then arrive. We’ll begin with around five minutes of walking: a chance to warm up, check in with ourselves and settle into the morning.

  • Enjoy the trail! From there, we head out onto the route. We will take brief, natural opportunities to pause, stretch and regroup at around the 4km and 6km marks, depending on how the group and conditions are moving.

  • Conversation, if it comes. There are some particularly good sections up on the tops for those who want to run and talk a little more comfortably. There is no agenda - business topics, ideas and questions are free to emerge, or not! It's your run and time what you see as most natural on the day.

  • Finish at the café. Of course, feel free to stick around and continue the chat…
